A Guest Conductor and a Dramatic Fate-Themed Program

The program continues a season titled “Life Finds a Way”, built around themes of life, resiliency, and nature. The music invokes the triumph of the human spirit over darkness and despair, and the power of defying fate to choose one’s own destiny. The program opens with Smetana’s The Moldau, as a river carves its own path through Bohemia, followed by Liszt’s Les Preludes, a tone poem about the human journey through the storms of fate to the triumph of choosing one’s own destiny. The concert is headlined by Tchaikovsky’s powerful Fourth Symphony, written when Tchaikovsky was at his darkest, lowest point. The piece evolves from the darkness of an unrelenting foreboding fate to ultimately triumphing over it by finding joy from the goodness of other people.

Cleveland native Lorenzo Lopez steps onto the podium to guest conduct this program. Mr. Lopez works frequently with City Music Chamber Orchestra, and has performed with a variety of other ensembles in Cleveland, including the Cleveland Ballet. Lopez has also worked with top orchestras around the world, including Orchestre Métropolitain, the Chamber Orchestra of New York, and the Romanian Chamber Orchestra.

Food Drive and Pre-Concert Activities

As part of its ongoing commitment to engaging with its community, SSO is collecting food donations for the Cleveland Food Bank. Anyone bringing a non-perishable food item will be entered into a raffle to win one of three pies from Patterson Fruit Farm.

The public is invited to arrive early to enter the Hall of Fate and try their hand at a variety of “Fate” – themed lobby games to win prizes such as Mitchell’s Scoop Certificates.
